Emotionally connected cotton shirts

Our T-shirts and polo shirts are 100% cotton, and our sweatshirts and jackets are 80% cotton – because cotton is a natural textile, very comfortable to wear, soft, breathable and durable. But the growing of cotton needs large amounts of water, pesticides and large areas of fertile land. Pollution through pesticides has a big influence on the environment, and it will take a long time to recover. One kilogram of cotton requires 8,000–10,000 liters of water (the weight of one T-shirt is about 200 grams). A lot of energy and earth’s resources are spent to produce cotton products, so we should be more careful with our clothes and try to use them for as long as possible.

We have a lot of questions about organic cotton. It is grown organically from non-genetically-modified plants without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals. It looks very tempting. However, organically approved pesticides can be used for planting this type of cotton, but it can be toxic too. Non-genetically modified plants are not so resistant to disease and insects. It requires more water and fertile land, because the yield of this cotton is lower than conventional cotton. So, everybody can decide which to use. In our shop, we don’t have organic cotton products, but for our subscribes we make limited editions of organic Linux T-shirts.

Also, some words about synthetic clothes – nowadays, synthetic clothes are very popular in the fast-fashion industry. Colorful, good-looking and durable clothes for a low price. Synthetic fibers are also used for sports clothes. But we are selling T-shirts for regular use, they connect with the skin for a long time and the effect of synthetics on the human body is still unknown. For sitting in the office or at home, breathable, natural cotton is still the best idea.

Cotton decomposes in 2-3 years, synthetic clothes take up to 30 years.

We stick to the idea of slow fashion. Classical, standard colors and models of clothes for everyday wear and good quality for long time use. And also, if clothes are emotionally or culturally connected to a person, it makes the items more valuable and they will last longer. We will treat a T-shirt with our favorite Linux logo more carefully and better.
